You know it is spring when you see the geese, crows and eagles returning, as well as local municipal public-works staff out preparing for spring run-off. In the recent past, many of our local towns have experienced more than their share of spring run-off.

Public works staff are busy preparing for spring run-off. Town of Churchbridge Foreman Jason Poppenheim clears culvert openings and runoff channels in town to help with drainage.

In the recent past, many of our local towns have experienced more than their share of spring run-off. Residents are thankful to see our local public works staff busy cleaning culvert openings and runoff channels.

Public works staff work tirelessly to try and ensure minimal damage to ratepayers property and municipalities. They do this along with the added burden of the pandemic and state of emergency declared across Saskatchewan, Canada and broader parts of the world.

It is not an easy task at the best of times. We all remember some of the recent “floods” that occurred, yet the extra pressure of a flu pandemic will make things a lot more difficult and time-consuming.

As a ratepayer we need to keep in mind these workers are busily keeping our towns and villages maintained and ensure we have good safe water to drink.     The public needs to follow the social distancing guidelines to help these public works staff remain healthy. Please allow our public workers to remain on the job working hard to keep our municipalities functioning in these troubled times.
