On Friday, April 9, Red Beard’s Bar and Grill in Bredenbury had its grand reopening. Karen Schweizer, co-owner of the bar, was very pleased with the turn out. “We were fully packed for both weekends and it was very busy. We were happy to see how everyone came to introduce themselves,” she says.

Karen has previous experience with owning restaurants in small towns. For the past ten years, Karen has run several restaurants and appreciates the support that small town restaurants get from the community. “We love the way the community supports their local bar and how they socialize. You don’t have to call anyone from outside town if you need any help for anything. People in small towns are there to support you for everything.”

Karen says that they made the decision to reopen Red Beard’s Bar and Grill after hearing positive things about the bar when it was open with its previous owners. “We heard good things about the bar and the challenges they have faced. We also own the bar in Springside and got feedback from the town that every one in Bredenbury needs the Red Beard Bar back, so we tried opening and got lots of very good feedback.”

In her time in the restaurant industry, Karen has seen how important restaurants are to the community. “In a community, a restaurant is not just an eating place, it is the place where everyone gets together and socializes. I have seen people coming sitting having beers and getting a chance to see their old friend after a long time apart.”

They are still not completely finished reopening the bar as they are still in the process of getting their retail liquor license.

“We believe in supporting local communities. We make all our products [with goods] from locally owned suppliers so if anyone reads this and wants to supply us with anything that they make in house, we will be more than happy to support that,” Karen says.
