On Saturday, July 10th the Spy Hill First Responders hosted a slow pitch tournament to fundraise for the Friesen family.
Gene Friesen was in a quad accident on Sunday June 27th, where he was STARS air ambulanced to Regina. Gene passed away on Thursday last week with family at his side.
Stacey Friesen is a Constable with the Kamsack RCMP. The Friesen family also includes Liam and Finnegan, two year old twin boys.
The proceeds raised from the day went toward assisting the Friesen family.
The day involved multiple teams competing in a slow pitch tournament as well as a bouncy castle available for the children.
Jim LaRoque and the Spy Hill Fire Department gave the athletes a light misting of water from the fire truck during the hottest portion of the day, which assisted with preventing heat related injuries.
A canteen was organized by volunteers as they served delicious food from the grill.
Jessica Mahiegan, Heather Carter, Colleen & Jim LaRocque, along with the support of the Spy Hill Community Club helped organize the event.
Support was shown from the entire community and surrounding area, and specifically Finishing Touch (Jason and Jody Miller and employees), Cretek (company and all employees), Noble construction employees, Wallin’s Bigway, Decker’s H20, Todd and Christine Shire and Carmelle Moore. A big thank you goes out to all the volunteers and supporters who helped make the day a huge success.
A 50/50 was also held to assist with the fundraising goal. $485 was won by Pat Petracek who graciously donated it back to the family. The Tupperware draw was won by Trisha Minchuk.
Organizer Colleen LaRoque spoke about the importance of the event, saying, “We are so proud of our community and how they come together to help each other with so many thanks to all our first responders, EMS and RCMP who go out there every day and deal with these tragedies.”
