Jerin Keough is an outstanding lacrosse player who hails from Langenburg. Jerin not only advances his own skills, but he also contributes as a coach to the lacrosse program that runs in Churchbridge.

Keough started playing lacrosse 7 years ago, in Grade 2, in Yorkton.

When asked what keeps him engaged, Jerin replied, “Having fun with friends, the game changes so quickly.” He enjoys the speed of the game, the physical contact and the offence (scoring). “What keeps me engaged is knowing there are different teams and levels to try out for and all of the different opportunities in the sport.”

For future plans, Jerin mentioned, “This is the off season for lacrosse but I am continuing with Shattler Academy training throughout the winter and planning to try out for the Barracuda, Team Sask and Royals teams this next season. The Royals field team had planned to attend the Blackjack tournament in Las Vegas, NV in December, but due to Covid and safety of the players, they decided to delay attending the tournament till next year. This tournament is one of the biggest tournaments in the US with many scouts in attendance.”

Playing high level lacrosse is more challenging for those living in small towns as the distance can become a detrimental factor.

Keough explained the challenges by saying, “It is a big commitment, as it is not just the practice and games time, but also all the travel to Regina/Saskatoon weekly. Many of the weekends in the summer are taken up for training and practice. With some of the teams, they have training nights in Regina at the gym that I am not able to attend, so I need to do this work on my own at home. At this time there is no one in the area to train with which can make it tough to stay motivated. I am also just practicing in the backyard as there is no facility in the area to practice indoors.”

The area is lucky to have an emerging star who loves one of our nation’s national sports. Jerin is committed to coaching local athletes and is a tremendous asset to our communities. The young man not only commits hours of his time to travel for personal development, but he also ensures that our area can benefit from his talents through the hours he spends coaching.
