The spirit of community and compassion filled the Langenburg Community Hall on Wednesday, October 8, as the annual Family and Friends Pink and Chocolate Reception brought people together for an evening of hope, awareness, and generosity.
Committee chair Darsann VanCeseele welcomed the crowd and introduced the dedicated members of the organizing committee: Stacy Schappert, Brooke Barker, Carla Kaeding, Cali Nerbas, Randi Jacob, Caylyn McDonell, Cathy Fieseler, Marlene Rathgeber, and Eliana Margaritte. She thanked them for their ongoing commitment and hard work in making the event a success year after year.
“The Cancer Support Fund is part of the Family and Friends Community Foundation,” VanCeseele explained. “We are very fortunate that this foundation helps so many organizations in our area.” Guests were reminded that donations over $20 are eligible for a charitable tax receipt, with many contributing throughout the evening.
A highlight of the night was the heartfelt presentation by guest speaker Elsie Werle, who shared her personal cancer journey. Elsie spoke about the power of maintaining a positive, determined attitude and expressed deep gratitude to her husband, daughters, and extended family for their unwavering support. Her story resonated with everyone in attendance, offering both encouragement and inspiration.
The Pink and Chocolate event began in 2005 and has grown into a beloved community tradition. Over the years, funds raised have supported numerous cancer-related initiatives, including educational awareness programs for students, contributions toward a digital mammography machine in Yorkton, furniture and a Health Hub donation for the Allan Blair Clinic in Regina, and most recently, a donation to the Cancer Treatment Facility in Yorkton.
Attendees enjoyed an evening of laughter, friendship, and indulgence with raffle prizes donated by generous local businesses and, of course, an array of decadent chocolate desserts.
This year’s event raised an impressive $9,500 for the Cancer Support Fund.
“Our committee is always amazed and overwhelmed by the continuous support we receive,” said VanCeseele. “Thank you to everyone who helps make this evening possible. It is truly an evening of hope.”
