On October 12th, the left side of Esterhazy’s main street gained some new, beautiful solar power streetlights! I spoke to the Planning and Economic Development Director at the Town of Esterhazy Tammy MacDonald Lussier about the new lights.

She said that the lights were a part of the downtown beautification project. Esterhazy’s Mayor and Council have worked with the Economic Development Committee towards the downtown project that started last summer. Tammy said, “The start of the vision of the project started with the Economic Development Committee designing and creating the two parklets that are in the downtown area. When the Town of Esterhazy was awarded funds with MEEP (Municipal Economic Enhancement Program) Provincial funds, this is when the Mayor and Council decided to dedicate a portion of this towards downtown beautification in the community.” The twenty main street middle line planters were the first addition, then three new bowl planters and two castle planters on the boulevard on Sumner Street, and now the twenty dual solar lights. Tammy concluded by adding, “The solar lights will help light up our sidewalks plus also have the added ‘green initiative’ enhancement as they are solar powered. We are working towards a few more items to add to the project but nothing finalized yet, but I will say they will be to add some more ‘sparkle’ to the winter season in our downtown area.” Make sure to check out the beautiful new lights on main street!
