The Town of Bredenbury wants to see an NHL exhibition game and is hopeful for the possibility of an arena upgrade as well.

Recently, the town threw their name in the ring to compete for the title of becoming Kraft’s Hockeyville for 2020. The contest is an annual event put on by the company and made waves a few years ago as Ituna made headlines. Ituna made a huge push in 2017 and earned a top-two finish; the community still earned funds towards their arena even without winning first spot in the contest.

Kim Varga, Bredenbury’s chief administrative officer, shared some of the criteria that is part of the nomination.

Those looking to help nominate the community will need to answer questions based on three themes:

Tell us about your community’s spirit as well as its passion for hockey? Can you describe examples of how this came to light

Tell us about your arena and why it is important to your community and how the $250,000 would be used to upgrade the arena.

Why should your community be the next Kraft Hockeyville?

You can add up to five photos or videos to your nomination which also helps the community earn rally points.

You can like each and every picture, video and nomination which also helps with points.

You can also please share the post daily on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter to spread coverage.

At this point, hopefully communities get to the next round by earning “rally points”. The top four arenas get chosen to move on to the voting [portion]. More nominations with information, pictures and videos helps the community’s bid. The contest ends February 9 and anyone who wishes to help can submit a nomination online on the Kraft Hockeyville website at https://www.krafthockeyville.ca/#/community/bredenbury all you need is an email to register. The town office will be of assistance to anyone that needs help with registration and submissions.

Kim is excited about the possibility of upgrading their rink, but is also “Anybody who would like to see an NHL game in Bredenbury benefits. $250,000 is a huge amount, but the exhibition game would be awesome as well. We have a really big rink that can hold quite a few people.

With the support of the surrounding communities who also may want to see an NHL game, this dream could be a reality in 2020.
