Community members gathered on December 3rd for the grand opening of the Churchbridge Credit Union’s new Langenburg branch, located at 119 2nd Street South. The modern facility was constructed over the past year and offers expanded space to support staff growth and enhanced services for members.
The event began with welcoming remarks from CEO Ryan Tebbutt, Board President Brenda Becker, and Langenburg Mayor Jeff Farmer.
“Today marks an exciting milestone for our Credit Union,” Tebbutt said. He highlighted the organization’s dedication to building strong relationships, supporting local initiatives, and investing in people and businesses that help communities thrive. “We’re proud to serve this community and to continue growing alongside you.”
Becker reflected on the effort behind the new branch, from the start with the groundbreaking to the official opening. “It has been an exciting journey and a true team effort,” she said. The expanded facility addresses space limitations at the former location and provides room for future growth. “The branch is a symbol of our dedication to our members and to the communities we serve.”
Mayor Farmer extended congratulations on behalf of the town. “This is a phenomenal facility for the heart of our business centre,” he said. “We couldn’t be happier to see it here.”
Following the speeches, a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held, and guests enjoyed cake and beverages inside the new building.
A Legacy of Community Investment
The Churchbridge Credit Union traces its roots to January 1944, when 14 local residents each contributed 25 cents to form a study group that would eventually lead to the incorporation of Churchbridge Savings and Credit Union Ltd. on April 20, 1945.
Today, the credit union remains deeply committed to community support. Its Community Investment Program, established in 2011, pledges 2.5% of pre-tax profits annually to local non-profit projects. Since the program began, more than $464,000 has been invested in community organizations. In 2024 alone, staff contributed over 1,000 volunteer hours.
Members also benefit from a profit sharing program, which returns a portion of surplus earnings based on member patronage. Meanwhile, all deposits are fully guaranteed through the Credit Union Deposit Guarantee Corporation, ensuring complete protection of members’ funds.
A Growing Presence
The Churchbridge Credit Union employs 36 local people, serves over 3,500 members, and oversees over $267 million in assets. The Credit Union operates two full-service branches with 24/7 ATMs in Churchbridge and Langenburg. The organization continues to prioritize personalized service, including real people answering phones during business hours. It also contributes more than $23,000 to municipalities annually in property taxes.
