Langenburg & District Activity Center Inc. (LDAC) is a series of services and buildings dedicated to providing person-centred support for people with varying abilities. Due to the perseverance of several dedicated parents and advocates, on September 19, 1980, the centre was opened by a committee of board members. The board members known as the Board of Directors manage three group homes, a workshop, SARCAN depots in Esterhazy and Langenburg and over 40 employees.

LDAC aims to provide person-centred support through empowerment, inspiration and advocacy. Langenburg & District Activity Centre Inc. has around 15 residents who inhabit the group homes. With two homes in Langenburg and one home in Esterhazy, the houses are well-used.

The LDAC workshop construction was made a reality by the financial contributions of the Department of Social Services, the Kinsmen Clubs of Saskatchewan, the Royal Canadian Legion and many local clubs and individuals. The workshop offers blocking and air vents repair services for MOSAIC and paper-shredding services for local businesses.

LDAC’s SARCAN depots are business opportunities which employ people of different abilities. With numerous locations throughout Saskatchewan, SARCAN creates meaningful employment. In the process, the company promotes environmental sustainability and helps build communities.

Every summer, an annual general meeting hosted by LDAC is held. This year on July 12, 2021, at 5:30 pm the annual meeting open to the public took place. Located at the Activity Centre Boardroom on 102 Carl Ave East, all community members were invited to attend. “We usually have 10 to 12 people in attendance including the board members, the Executive Director of the LDAC, as well as other staff members of the LDAC,” explained LDAC Board Member Joan Planedin. This year, like the past five years, no public attended.

During the meeting, auditors were present to discuss the financial report prepared. Various committee reports were also presented. In addition, the meeting included the selection of new board members and the elections of a new executive of the board. The LDAC Board of Directors also took time to make internal changes; “It is during this time that members are chosen to sit on various committees that assist the executive director in performing their duties,” commented Planedin.

The LDAC is doing terrific work with the community and is making headway to create new, fun and enlightening experiences for many.
