The Board of Directors of Little Poppets Nursery School located in Langenburg are reaching out during a time of need.
Low enrolment this year, paired with a need for improvements to the building collided and the nursery school is now at risk of folding.
Britney Moore, President of the Board, mentioned, “Our staff and the small group of volunteers that comprise our board have been hustling the past year to keep the organization afloat. The support we’ve received and continue to receive from Langenburg and the surrounding communities has been incredible. Every type of donation, big or small, helps us in a huge way”.
A letter from the organization shared information on their background.
“Little Poppets Nursery School has been a part of Langenburg since 1983. It was started as a passion project by a group of parents, hoping to provide an educational experience to their young children before starting Kindergarten. Since then, it has grown, changed, and moved to all sorts of locations around town. Little Poppets has been in church basements, existed in the old part of Langenburg High School, been adjoined to the daycare, and today resides in its own building next door to Langenburg and District Daycare Co-operative. The building sat vacant for some time until Braendle-Bruce Funeral Service graciously sold it to us in 2022. As you can imagine, improvements were needed to develop it into a space for our students. Our board has worked hard, dedicating our time, money, and resources to make sure the children have what they need.“
“We’ve now reached a point where our space is exactly what we desired and future projects exist as a ‘want’ rather than a ‘need’. However, in reaching this point, we’ve depleted our nest egg which helps bridge us during times such as these. While our projections for next year show improved enrollment, our problem lies in getting us to the fall, where we will start seeing that income again.”
The letter continued, “Little Poppets is such an important part of the community, providing an educational experience to preschool-age children. Developing these positive experiences in our town helps further the children’s roots in the community. When they feel connected to Langenburg in such a way, it fosters a desire to give back, in childhood, teenage years, and adulthood. For the children to lose this opportunity we provide them would do them a disservice.”
Little Poppets does not want to close the doors. In their time of need, they ask those who can to consider a monetary donation to Little Poppets Nursery School. The nursery school is taking part in the town-wide garage sale on May 4th in Langenburg as an upcoming fundraising opportunity.
Donations can be made to the Town of Langenburg by email E-Transfer, with Little Poppets Nursery School included in the message, or by Cheque, with Little Poppets Nursery School on the cheque memo.
