It’s hard to believe we’re already into September and another summer has somehow slipped away. That long list of things we wanted to accomplish during the summer months doesn’t seem to be any shorter. Where did the time go? After a not-so-great July the weather in August was reasonably good so folks did manage to get out and enjoy themselves boating, camping, golfing and spending time at the cottage.

One good thing about the past month is that the Sask. Roughriders continue to win. Their latest victory in the annual Labour Day Classic against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers saw the Riders’ squeak out a nerve-wracking 19-17 win this past Sunday at Mosaic Stadium. That follows other August wins including a 24-19 win over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, a 17-10 victory over the Montreal Alouettes and a 40-18 drubbing of the Ottawa Redblacks. We’re right in the thick of the battle for first place in the CFL West division. The Riders’ next game is this Saturday against the Blue Bombers in the Banjo Bowl in Winnipeg.

Crops in the area are looking good but the regular series of rain showers and thunderstorms aren’t helping things at all. If good weather sets in, harvest will be well underway next week. We wish our producers well, but be careful out there!

If you were watching some of the football games on TV you no doubt saw, numerous times, ads about the Kraft contest which offers $250,000 to help upgrade one lucky community’s sports facilities. Langenburg is one of the communities that has entered and we’d encouraged everyone to help them out by checking out the Kraft website. That money would be a nice addition to the fundraising efforts for the town’s new swimming pool.

Speaking of swimming pools, a big pat on the back to all of the staff at the Churchbridge, Langenburg and Esterhazy swimming pools, as well as the volunteer committees helping run those facilities. It was another good season for lessons and public swimming sessions. We’re very fortunate to have those facilities available.
