I spoke to Aimee Unchulenko about her softball team’s win. She said, “As an avid athlete and competitor, I continue to play softball as a pitcher and first baseman. We do not have competitive teams in our local area, so I travel to play ball. I currently play for two teams, the Carnduff Southeast Steelers and Rampage. The Carnduff Steelers is the team I play tournaments, provincials and National Championships with, and Rampage is a Regina League team.” She continued, “To be a strong player and particularly for me, a strong pitcher, games are important, so I have been playing in the league in Regina for at least 8 years. League play typically begins in May and finishes in late July, however with a late start due to Covid restrictions we played from June until the middle of August this year. With my children being more involved in their own sports, I made it to fewer league games at the start of the season. However, once summer began and I had more free time towards the end of July, I was able to commit more time to the Regina team just as our regular season was finishing and playoffs were beginning.”

She discussed the playoffs by saying, “For the first round of playoffs our Rampage team played Earl Grey. We won that game in 5 innings with a score of 8-1. In the second round, we played Kaos. We also mercied this team, winning in 5 innings with a score of 12-3. During that game I hit a grand slam homerun! For the Division 1 Regina Ladies League Final we played Regina Pride. Our Rampage team had a close game with them, and we battled to win the championship with a score of 4-3. I was fortunate enough to pitch all three playoff games for our team. Rampage is a team that has players from Regina as well as others, like me, who drive into the city for some good, competitive ball.” Her family, both her children and her parents, often make the trip into the city with her to cheer her on. She loves playing sports and staying active! This is the 3rd title the Rampage team has won over the last 8 years in the league!
