A new business has made its way to Langenburg. Nicole Antosh, owner of Prairie Sky Sport Therapy is excited to return to her hometown as a certified Athletic Therapist and open her clinic. Opening the beginning of August, she seizes the opportunity to promote and educate the public on what athletic therapists can do and how they can help your injuries and conditions.
There are only a handful of Athletic Therapists in Saskatchewan; Nicole became certified in 2019. “I always wanted to go into the medical field, just wasn’t quite sure what I wanted to do. I injured my shoulder in high school playing volleyball and went and saw an athletic therapist, whom I ended up working for when I finished school but didn’t really become too interested in it until my second year of university when I learnt more about what they actually did,” said Antosh. She was drawn to the idea of working in a clinical setting along with sports teams in a more fast-paced and unpredictable way.
Antosh played volleyball, basketball and softball growing up. With her background, she relates to patients. When helping someone get back to a sporting activity, Antosh makes sure they are ready to return and will not become reinjured. Antosh knows the motions, positions and demands individual sports require. “By being actively involved in sports, I am able to connect my previous knowledge with my rehabilitation knowledge,” explained Antosh.
Antosh worked for CDI Injury Recovery Centre out of Moosomin in the Moosomin and Russell locations. After working for CDI, Antosh went out to Calgary and contracted out of Built Strong Athletics in Okotoks.
“I have always wanted to open my own practice, and being from Langenburg… I always wanted to come back to the area to work. I know that Langenburg had a gap in this field of work, and people were always having to commute for appointments. I am happy to be able to provide a new service to the town,” articulated Antosh.
Specializing in assessing and rehabilitating musculoskeletal, Antosh works with any injuries and conditions relating to muscles, bones, joints and ligaments. Low back pain, rotator cuff injuries, osteoarthritis and overuse injuries are common in her line of work. She offers a variety of techniques that include soft tissue massages, ultrasounds, muscle stimulations, cuppings, personalized exercise programs and more. Braces and supports are also available at Prairie Sky Sport Therapy.
Clientele range from children to the elderly; they do not need to be athletes to book an appointment. An athletic therapist’s job is to get their clients back to what they love doing most, no matter their activity level.
Located on Main Street’s 213 Kaiser William Ave, the business is accepting clients. There are anywhere from eight to 14 appointments per day depending on appointment lengths. The business is a new and exciting addition to Langenburg’s economy. Locals are excited to watch it grow.
