Lynn Schmidt is setting his sights high once again after raising more than $10,000 in 2025 for Snowarama, the annual fundraiser in support of Camp Easter Seals. With strong community backing already behind him, Lynn is hoping to surpass that total in 2026. He extended a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has donated so far and continues to support the cause.
Schmidt celebrated 30 years of riding in Snowarama last season. In honour of the occasion, Lynn set a personal goal of raising $10,000 and achieved it.
Through emails, phone calls, and face-to-face conversations, Lynn secured pledges from individuals and businesses. He noted the overwhelming generosity this year, with many donors contributing more than usual to recognize his three decades of dedication.
Snowarama holds special meaning for Lynn, who first became involved in 1995.
“The first year was when we started back in 1995. There was just me and a couple of my buddies. We had got new snowmobiles and were looking for something to do. We heard an advertisement about Snowarama and decided to go in that year,” he recalled.
After his friends stepped away, Lynn continued riding, joined by his wife, who has now participated for 28 years. Over time, the event became more than just a ride.
“I just find it was always a lot of fun to participate,” he said. “It was well organized, a good ride, meals and free gas through the day, and a banquet in the evening with awards and prizes. As the time went on, I started raising more and more money. It became addicting to see how much money I could raise every year.”
Beyond the camaraderie and enjoyment, Lynn says the true importance of Snowarama lies in helping children with disabilities.
“The importance of this is to help the kids with disabilities,” he explained. “It costs about $2,500 per child to go to Camp Easter Seals. They also help with computers, wheelchairs, and technical equipment, things that help these kids have as normal a life as possible.”
He added that the support provided through the fundraiser helps ease the burden on families and brings excitement to children who benefit from attending camp or receiving specialized equipment.
