Sheri Veal recently opened her business, the Divine Healing Sanctuary, in Churchbridge.
Sheri offers reflexology, reiki, face and scalp massages, a quantum touch process, oracle card readings, as well as meditation and self-discovery workshops that will begin in September.
Talking about her local connections, she said, “I grew up near Langenburg on the farm. I left when I was eighteen, came back when I was twenty, went to Brandon University and got my sociology and psychology degree. I moved to Calgary and opened up a janitorial business for twenty years and did this work on the side. I did massage therapy and reflexology. I took reflexology courses twenty-five years ago and reiki”.
Sheri’s mom, Bugs Veal, worked at the care home in Langenburg for thirty years.
Her dad, Alan Veal, passed away at the end of December. Alan was a farmer who worked at the mine a little as well.
The moment Alan passed away, Sheri said to herself, “Okay, enough’s enough. I’m opening my practice. Life’s not long enough. That triggered me to open this up. My mom and dad would’ve loved it”.
Speaking about the meditation classes she plans to offer, Sheri said. “My goal is to give people the tools to do [meditation] on their own. I want people to learn how to heal themselves. This isn’t me trying to heal the world. This is me trying to teach a man to fish so he can eat for the rest of his life”.
She mentioned that there are many adults who are new to meditation. She plans on teaching a beginner class that starts with ten minutes of meditation at a time and extends as the class advances. The intention is to understand the concepts of meditation before moving on to a longer time-frame.
If people have meditated before and are more advanced, then she will also offer half an hour sessions. “The energy in the room is completely different than doing it by yourself. You feel that energy, and things happen to people as they start going into themselves.”
There will be classes available for youth as well. One class will be for those aged three to five.
“The children sit around and discuss what they think calm is, and what they do when they’re scared, frightened, anxious; then teach them how to deep breathe and think about anything else, something fun like a puppy.”
She said a second class would be available for kids aged six to ten.
“It’s important for the really young kids to learn how to and deal with situations at school, like, what do you do when you come across somebody who’s bullying you or you get very angry? What do you do? Deep breaths and visualize.”
Veal plans to start a Facebook page where monthly scheduling will be available.
The quantum touch process is similar to reiki, but it’s for specific areas.
“If you’re having issues with your spine I would spend all my time just going down your spine and trying to realign that. Whereas reiki goes through your chakras and tries to open up your energy sources.”
The spa foot massage is for people whose feet are so sensitive, they can’t take reflexology.
Reflexology is an alternative medical practice that involves applying pressure to specific points on the feet, ears, and hands using thumb, finger, and hand massage techniques without the use of oil or lotion.
Starting in September, Sheri will host self-discovery workshops as well as meditation classes. “We’re going to do self discovery workshops, which will include information from research. Through science, many doctors have gone more to a more natural way of healing, discovering that chemicals aren’t always the way to go.”
Divine Healing Sanctuary in Churchbridge, located at 110 Rankin Rd. next to the library, is open Tuesday – Friday from 9 A.M. to 5 P.M. On Saturdays, Sheri is available by appointment only. Book an appointment by stopping in, calling (306)496-7551 or emailing sherivls@hotmail.com.
