Rain has played a prominent role in the early part of the South East Men’s Fastball Leagues season. Several games were postponed and need to be made up, however each club has managed to play at least one game. This season the league is made up of seven teams. Traditional powerhouses such as the Fleming Jets, Whitewood Falcons, Ochapowace Thunder, Round Lake Braves, Kahkewistehaw Blue Jays and last season’s champions the Grenfell Gems are joined by the Young Bucks, no not the tag team champions in All Elite Wrestling, these Young Buckz are a junior team comprised of players from Ochapowace and Kahkewistehaw.
The season began on June the eighth, it was a rainy night which saw two games get postponed (Grenfell @ Ochapowace and Round Lake @ the Young Bucks). The Fleming Jets shut out Kahkewistehaw 4-0. Brayden Stewart pitched a complete game two hit Shutout to lead the Jets to an opening night victory. That was the only action to get completed in week one.
Week two began with a rematch of last year’s championship game. Grenfell against Round Lake. Once again Grenfell was victorious. Other action in week two saw Whitewood knock off Ochapowace 11-5, Round Lake wallop Fleming 12-3, Whitewood edge the Young Bucks 2-1 and the Grenfell Gems shut out Round Lake 5-0.
Week three started off with a doubleheader in Ochapowace. The Young Bucks played host to Ochapowace in one game and Kahkewistahaw in the other. The Young Bucks split the double header. They knocked off Kahkewistahaw but fell to Ochapowace.
On Tuesday, June 22 Ochapowace battles Kahkewistahaw and Round Lake hosts Whitewood.
On Wednesday, June 23 The Young Buckz entertain Grenfell. On Friday, June 25 Fleming @ Grenfell.
The week wraps up with a Sunday afternoon Matinee in Stockholm. Opening pitch is scheduled for 2 P.M. Colton Macpherson of the Whitewood Falcons is excited about the neutral site game. “We are trying to give back to the older generation where fastball was popular back in the day and hopefully get the younger kids interested in playing ball,” Macpherson says. “They have a beautiful little ball park for a small community.”
The folks in Stockholm should be in store for a treat. The Gems and Falcons are both unbeaten after two weeks and sit atop the league standings at 2-0. Fleming is 2-1, Round Lake is 1-1, Ochapowace is 1-1, the Young Bucks are 1-3 while Kahkewistahaw remains winless at 0-3.
There is still plenty of ball to be played this season. For all of your SEMFBL fix, give the TL_Media Facebook or Twitter page some clicks.
