On June 27, 2022, the community of Langenburg took their next step towards opening their community thrift store. Appointing a Board of Directors, the Castle Closet thrift store is one step closer to opening its doors. With President JoAnna Thieman stepping up to the plate with support from Vice-President Lina Petkeviciene, Treasure Beryl Wagner, Secretary Lisa Kerr, Volunteer Director Betty Buchberger, Marketing Directors Barbara Rindisbacher and Lisa Kerr and Sales Directors Mardel O’Byrne and Barbara Rindisbacher, the team is excited to get to work.

The Castle Closet is a non-profit business funded solely by donations. “It’s a place where more than 40 volunteers will share their commitment, passion, and energy to help grow the surrounding area,” explained Petkeviciene. The Castle Closet will donate an earned profit back to the community. Its mission statement is “To generate funds to help Langenburg and area communities to grow by donating earned profit to local groups, organizations, programs, and individuals in need”. The Castle Closet hopes to create a caring, friendly and vibrant community atmosphere.

The Castle Closet plans to serve not just Langenburg, but surrounding areas as well. People from surrounding communities are welcomed to volunteer or donate to the shop. The thrift store plans on supporting communities that support them. Giving back to projects outside Langenburg is another goal of the organization. They plan to donate funds to all communities that support the Castle Closet.

Currently, the Castle Closet is looking for volunteers. To volunteer, you must be a minimum of 10 years old. The Board of Directors asks those looking to volunteer to contact Betty Buchberger by phone, (306) 743 7719, or email, rbbuch@sasktel.net, to be included on the list.

The thrift shop is accepting donations at the Langenburg Skating Rink Tuesdays from 12-2 PM and Thursdays from 5-7 PM. Acceptable donations include gently used clothing, accessories, jewelry, collectibles, textiles, home decor, houseware, electronics, media, books, seasonal items, toys and cash donations. Unacceptable donations include furniture, auto parts, barbecues, mattresses, carpets, paints, propane tanks, baby walkers, lawn darts with elongated tips, used cosmetics, bicycles and in-line skating helmets.

The volunteer organization plans to open its doors between September and October of 2022. Langenburg and surrounding communities’ support will be crucial to the shop’s success. A thrift store is a great initiative. It promotes sustainability, fosters creativity and supports communities. Citizens are encouraged to start donating today.
