Zachary Gehl won his MMA fight in Green Bay, Wisconsin. He won by knockout in the second round.
Zach said that a big part of the MMA game behind the scenes is weight cutting. He said, “there is a real science to it, in three days I went from 156 to weighing in at 145.2, then entering the cage at 156 again.” The idea being to be as big as possible in as low a weight class as possible. This weight cut and training camp went very well for this competition, so he was very confident. He needs to heal up and train harder because he will have another fight in July.
On social media after his win, Zach posted, “Wow what a feeling. The whole MMA experience is so surreal! Words cannot describe the whole thing. I trained so hard and was rewarded with victory!” He continued to thank his team, the gang at Alliance Training Center Saskatchewan “for letting me play rough with you all in preparation.” He also thanked the hosts of the event, and then said, “Thank you to my opponent and his team who showed the ultimate respect in coming ready for a battle with me.” He concluded his post by thanking his sponsor and Anytime Fitness Esterhazy. He said, “thank you to all the people who have supported me with kind words along the way. I return once again with my shield!”
Zach posted a different social media post regarding the host of the fight. He said, “An athlete can train six days a week over and over, but without a proving ground it’s all for not. I always have huge respect for promoters who put their reputation and money on the line so we can test ourselves. Thank you, Chris of Ogitchidaa Fight Promotions; this venue, and the whole experience was amazing! Thank you for trusting we would come all that way and that I would give the crowd my all!”
If you see Zachary, make sure to congratulate him and cheer him on for his next fight in July. He is always proud to be from small town Saskatchewan and always blown away by the support he receives.
