The Municipal Economic Enhancement Program 2020, known as MEEP, has been offered to individual municipalities on a per capita basis, based on the 2016 Canadian Census population numbers. MEEP is to support investments in infrastructure to help stimulate economic recovery due to COVID-19 and will inject $150 million to the municipalities.
After signing a funding agreement, submitting a project plan and receiving a resolution by the Town of Bredenbury Council, the municipality will then be eligible for the funding.
The Town of Bredenbury is allocated to receive $53,467.00, and although it has not been completely decided the town feels it would be best to put this funding into the old school/firehall.This facility is a large undertaking for the town but the council feels it is going to be a vast improvement over the present buildings that house the fire truck.
There are 14 different broad infrastructure project categories available in this program including: Connectivity, Disaster Mitigation, Drinking-Water, Engineering and Feasibility Studies, Green Energy, Local Roads and Bridges, Municipal Equipment, Municipally-Owned Buildings and Assets, Planning and Development, Protective Services, Public Health, Solid Waste, Recreation, Culture, Tourism and Sport and Wastewater and Storm Water.
