There is a Run for the Cure taking place in Stockholm on October 3rd at 10:00 a.m. It is a 5 kilometer walk and/or run that starts on 211 Macdonald Street in Stockholm. The Run for the Cure is a fundraiser in honor of breast cancer research, survivors, and those we have unfortunately lost. I spoke to Bobbi Nichols of Bobbi’s Breast Friends about the run. She bravely said, “I was diagnosed with breast cancer in spring of 2014. It was a very stressful summer waiting to hear when my surgery would be. I had chosen to have a mastectomy because of the breast cancer history in my family. Watching me struggle was very difficult for my family also. It was in September that my daughter told me about this breast cancer run that they have in Regina every year. She said let’s do it mom! Right then and there our family signed up along with a few close friends. As it turned out I would have my surgery two weeks after that first run.”
She continued, “Not knowing much about this walk/run I thought there might be 50 maybe 100 people there. Was I wrong? There were well over 1000 people there. That was the beginning of our commitment to the run.” Their team “Bobbi’s Breast Friends” began to grow. She concluded by saying, “This year will be our seventh. To date our wonderful team has raised over $13,000 for research since we started seven years ago. We will be doing the 5k here at home. Anyone wanting to join us is welcome to do so. Because of generous people like you, people like me can say ‘I am a breast cancer survivor!’ THANK YOU.” Please consider joining the Stockholm Run for the Cure on Sunday, October 3rd, it is a wonderful cause to support!
