On October 19, 2021 at 7:00 P.M. Mayor Jeremy Stasiuk called the regularly scheduled council meeting of the Town of Langenburg to order with a quorum present.
Mayor Stasiuk then gave the floor to a delegation requesting accommodation on a zoning change within town limits.
Carrying on, the council reviewed the agenda prior to Councillor Sizinski making the motion to accept the agenda as reviewed; the motion carried.
Next, the council reviewed the minutes of the last regularly scheduled council meeting, Councillor Lundgren made the motion to accept the minutes as reviewed; the motion carried.
Moving on, the council reviewed the town’s accounts. CAO Lemcke explained the accounts to the council and answered any question the council had. Councillor Popp made the motion to accept the list of accounts; the motion was carried.
Councillor Popp gave the rest of the council a review of the bank reconciliation prior to making the motion to accept the report as reviewed; the motion carried.
The council then reviewed the foreman’s report. After a short discussion, Councillor Hunt made the motion to accept the report as reviewed and discussed.
CAO Lemcke was next to give her administration report to the council regarding what has happened in the town office over the last two weeks, Councillor Popp made the motion to accept the report as reviewed; the motion was carried.
Council Standing Committees were next to be reviewed as each councillor gave a short report on what each committee is up to.
Correspondence
The council reviewed the correspondence received by the town over the last two weeks, Councillor Sizinski made the motion to file the correspondence; the motion was carried.
Old Business
The council reviewed the COVID Isolation policy for the town. Councillor Sizinski made the motion to accept this policy as reviewed; the motion was carried.
New Business
Councillor Sicinski motioned to have the first reading of Bylaw 004-2021 Water Works Capital Investment Strategy. This is intended to increase the Water Works Capital Fee from $15 to $20 per month to keep up with the rising costs of infrastructure and the need to replace many pipes within the streets.
Councillor Hunt made the motion to have the first reading of the Bylaw to Fix Rates to be Charged for the Use and Consumption of Water and Sewer. Residents will see a $1 increase to the recycle fee built into the water bills. This fee is to help offset the cost of the blue bins as recycling costs continue to rise.
There was no change to the actual cost of water to a resident; however, they will see a small increase on the bills because the infrastructure fee and the recycle fee are all calculated and included in the water bills.
It was noted that these bylaws don’t come in effect until approved by the province and no increases will be seen until January of 2022.
Councillor Hunt made the motion to go in-camera; the motion carried.
