Bo, a Coonhound Retriever Cross, is a therapy dog and is now at PJ Gillen Elementary School! I spoke to Wanita Lippai, the PJ Gillen Vice Principal, about Bo.
The Twin Valley Vet Clinic reached out to her about this great idea. Bo was trained at Lakeland College with his owner. Sara, one of his owners and an employee at Twin Valley Vet stays with him during all his visits at the school. Various dates for visits are chosen by the staff at the clinic and the school. The visits are anywhere from one hour to an hour and a half long at a time. He is currently seeing six different students. A variety of students are selected based on their interest and Bo’s time. This is one of a variety of innovative ways the school engages their learners. Students can request time with him, depending on how much time he has available to be in the school. The response has been great from the staff and students – they love him! Wanita sends a big “thank you” to Twin Valley Vet Clinic for their outreach program!
