The Blu Beach Band is nominated for the 2022 Saskatchewan Music Awards Best Saskatchewan Album of the Year after the release of their album A Dog’s Breakfast.
The group formed in Langenburg as a three-piece in 2013 with Carter, Eric, and Riley. Around 2016 the band added Remi, from Esterhazy. “We’ve all been married ever since,” joked Lead Vocalist Carter Vosper.
Originally known as The Firm, the band rebranded itself and is now part of the 5th annual Saskatchewan Music Awards.
Other noteworthy artists nominated include local Jess Moskaluke, and other big names such as Donny Parenteau and the Hunter Brothers. The Blu Beach Band is showing they are a musical powerhouse in the province of Saskatchewan, and that presence is growing around the nation.
Moskaluke is nominated in the category of Single of the Year for her single Knock Off.
Charlee Mitschke reported previously in the Four-Town Journal that the “Blu Beach Band also pays a special homage to Jess Moskaluke. Vosper explained, ‘She has done this right from our home, which acted as proof to us that it doesn’t matter where you’re from, as long as you love what you do and show love for your supporters. Although… making really good music helps’.”
The Blu Beach Band is an indie rock group which includes band members, Carter Vosper on vocals and guitar, Remi Berthelet on vocals and guitar, Eric Vosper on bass, and Riley Buchberger on drums. The band began playing together in their school talent nights and are now nominated for a prestigious award.
SaskMusic is presenting the fifth annual awards in person after two years of virtual presentations, taking place at the newly restored historic Darke Hall in Regina on Sunday, December 11/22. The slate of performers for this year’s show will be announced over the coming weeks.
The SMAs are intended to honour excellence and celebrate the achievements of our Saskatchewan music industry members over the past year, with both artistic and industry nominees recognized.
Speaking about the impact of the nomination, Carter mentioned, “It has a huge impact on us in terms of motivation. This nomination is a great honour for us and although we have felt endless support from our communities for years now, this feels like recognition from Saskatchewan as a collective, and a sign that we are extending our musical reach. Our main takeaway is to keep at it and make our next album even better.”
The public is invited to vote on four Saskatchewan Music Award categories this year. Beginning November 7 and ending midnight November 16, voting will be open via www.saskmusicawards.com for multiple awards including The Best Saskatchewan Albums of the Year Long List Album of the Year which the Blu Beach Band is nominated for.
One vote per email address will be accepted for each of the above categories over the course of the voting window.

Carter Vosper mentioned the band’s future plans. “We have lots of shows currently in the works, such as the Grey Cup Festival on November 19th at the Harvard Media Stage, as well as plans to hit the studio and record another album along with some high-concept music videos in the works. We are also planning another summer tour, this time branching outside of Saskatchewan into uncharted territory for us!”
