The Sask East Hockey League’s opening week was nothing short of thrilling, with exciting action from the Langenburg Warriors, Esterhazy Flyers, and Churchbridge Imperials.
Langenburg Warriors: A Dominant Weekend Sweep
The Langenburg Warriors showed they’re a force to be reckoned with, securing back-to-back wins to start their season. On November 15, they defeated the Theodore Buffalos 5-2 in a game where they never looked back after taking an early lead. The Warriors’ offensive attack was relentless, led by Tyler Kirkup, who netted 2 goals and 1 assist, and Hayden Wiebe, who contributed 1 goal and 1 assist. The Warriors were outshot by the Buffalos 35-30, with Carter Olson making 35 saves in net for a .943 save percentage.
The following night, Langenburg was even more dominant, obliterating the Cote Selects 10-2. Despite an early first-period goal from Cote’s Kailum Gervais, the Warriors responded with two first-period goals, five second-period goals and three third-period goals concurrently to put the game well out of reach. Hayden Wiebe scored 2 goals and recorded 2 assists to gain the belt for the Warriors. Mike Rogoschewsky was another standout performer, recording two goals and 1 assist.
The Warriors are firing on all cylinders early, and will look to extend their 2-0 start as they head into the next week of action.
Esterhazy Flyers: A Hard-Fought 7-5 Win
The Esterhazy Flyers earned a dramatic 7-5 victory over the Cote Selects on November 15. In a game full of twists and turns, Jayden Isaac was the star, recording a hat trick and adding 2 assists for a five-point performance. The Flyers had to weather multiple comebacks from the Selects, including a late-game equalizer from Dennis Peepeetch. But Isaac came through with two more clutch goals, including a short-handed strike and a game-clinching goal, securing the Flyers’ 7-5 win.
Dakota Berezowski made the required saves in net for the win. With the win, the Flyers are proving themselves to be serious contenders.
Churchbridge Imperials: A Close Loss to Wapella
In a tightly contested matchup, the Churchbridge Imperials were edged 4-2 by the Wapella Blackhawks on November 16. The Imperials fought hard but couldn’t overcome the Blackhawks’ balanced attack. Wapella, led by Chase Schaber and Colton Yellow Horn, took a 2-0 lead in the first period and never looked back, despite a spirited push by Churchbridge in the later stages of the game.
The Imperials struggled on the power play, failing to convert on their chances. Despite the loss, Churchbridge will look to regroup and bounce back in their next game.
