On Tuesday, May 24th a group of motivated individuals met at the Churchbridge Curling Club to discuss the future of the Churchbridge Golf Course, known as Antler Acres.

The large group met with the intent to communicate the current state of negotiations for the purchase and operation of the golf course and to elect an executive that can carry out the negotiations, establish a legal organization and complete the necessary work to get the course operational.

Clint Prier opened the meeting, greeting the enthusiastic participants.

Currently, the group is working with the Dedel’s on the details of the purchase agreement.

A general community presentation will be prepared in the coming weeks to kick off the fundraising effort as the funds to purchase will largely need to be sourced through donations and special fundraising events.

Planned future fundraising efforts for the 9-hole course in Churchbridge include the Killer Classic returning once again. Kevin Kaminski intends to run the Killer Classic on August 6th.Kevin will have a committee established and the golf course organization will need to help them.

Mosaic employees can also give their time at the golf course and receive $20/hour for that time toward the volunteer cause, up to $2000/year.

If possible, there will be more golf tournaments planned as well to spur more fundraising activity.

There will be a lease for this golf season, but if the support is not there then the project will not be able to continue. The volunteers, their time and financial support will need to continue to ensure the project can be viable. They are hoping for a strong year to see the community rally around the golf course, and it will be a good indicator to see if the community really wants to see the golf course continue into the future.

Dwayne Bourgette led the voting-in of the initial executive members for the committee. The members will be as follows:

Nominations for President – Clint Prier

Nominations for Vice President – Dan Charlebois

Nominations for Secretary – Janessa Liepert

Nominations for Treasurer- Kyla Evans

Members at Large – Lynnae Bourgette-Sutherland – Women’s Club, Craig Kaeding – Men’s Club, Dwayne Bourgette- Seniors Club, Bob Bjarnason and Troy Miller.

President Clint Prier opened the meeting up to the public if they had any questions or concerns.

Is the work going to be based on volunteer service?

The executive would be in charge of sorting out the labour, but volunteers will be needed starting soon for tasks like cutting the fairway. A pledge sheet went out at Men’s night and much support was shown.

What will the cost be for green fees?

The executive is looking at a similar fee as last year.

Is there a possible opening date?

The date will be confirmed, but it will happen once the legal work and liability insurance is complete. The official start date of the course will not be for a couple of weeks.

Will the course maintain the grass greens or use sand greens?

The plan is to keep grass greens. Dwayne Bourgette has volunteered to take charge of the greens keeping committee.

Closing Notes

The group is looking for a grass cutter to hire and tenders will be posted. Contact the executive if you or someone one you know is interested.

There is a volunteer list for anyone interested in helping with the wide variety of tasks.

It is important to mention the group is asking for general patience as they work through the transition.

Those interested in a membership can reach out to any member of the executive listed above.
