Travellers along Highway 16 through Langenburg will notice an eye-catching art structure built from colourful ice blocks.

Teresa Carter was highly involved in building the heart-shaped structure. She said, “If life gives you lemons, make lemonade. If life gives you a long icy winter, build an ice wall!”

Teresa and an assortment of friends slowly but surely built the wall over about a month from mid-February to mid-March.

Darius & Lina Petkeviciene offered their empty lot on Highway 16 in Langenburg (between Subway & Lauer Tire) as a place where the wall could be seen by many passers-by.

Carter mentioned, “The goal was to spread a message of love and hope in the midst of a long challenging winter, and to have a bit of fun and collective creativity in the process.

Friends and neighbours saved up over 100 milk jugs which were filled with water & either food colouring or fabric dye, and frozen outside. A variety of other containers, from aluminium roasting pans to pails and juice boxes, were also used. With mostly recycled materials, water and natural freezing, construction costs were minimal!”

Teresa hopes people will take photos with friends and family in front of the ice wall as a colourful backdrop until Spring colours emerge.
